The Philippine Star The Philippine Star was founded by Betty Go-Belmonte together with Max Soliven, Art Borjal and Antonio Roces. The paper was came out on the streets on July 28, 1986, however it had its blessing and launching on the 26th of July 1986. Narrating about the origin of the publication's name Star founder Betty Go-Belmonte, told its story in an article entitled "The birth of Star" dated July 28, 1986. According to her write-up, "Max liked the format of "USA Today" and so did Tony, Art and I. As for the name they all like "STAR," but I liked "Philippines Today." So, the newspaper was called, The Philippine Star, and the company, 'Philippines Today, Inc.'"
