Alejandro Roces y Gonzales
(1804-1863)
Don Alejandro is the great grandfather of Joaquin "Chino" Roces. He was born in Asturias, Spain in 1804 and died in Manila in 1863. He had two marriages, first with Florentina de Leon and second with Severa Mauricio, who was from Binondo, Manila. He had a son with the later named Alejandro Roman Domingo Roces y Mauricio. He once served as regidor of Manila and later in 1854 became alferez real.
*This painting was once hanged at the Manila Times office when the paper was still owned by the Roceses. It has a slogan beneath written in Spanish that states, "Always be just".
