ROCES:
A Tradition in Philippine Print Media
The Newsboy.
According to Alfredo Roces "The Newsboy" was sculpted by the late national artist, Guillermo Tolentino (sculptor of the UP Oblation and Bonifacio Monument). Tolentino was commissioned by Joaquin "Chino" P. Roces in the creation of this symbolical statue. It was located at the old Manila Times office before the paper was shut down upon the declaration of Martial Law. In 1998 when the new Manila Times was under Atty. Katrina Legarda, who was then publisher and editor, the statue was again placed at their office in Kalaw St., Taft Ave., Manila.
